Old Lyme Platform Bed

Share

The Old Lyme Platform Bed was originally designed for a couple from Old Lyme, Connecticut, who were inspired by the simple style of my Cherry Hardwood Platform Bed.  We worked together to create a bed that had a more substantial frame, a larger headboard and was higher off the floor.

The Old Lyme Platform Bed is a strong, solid, well-crafted bed that would provide them with many restful nights and could be passed down through the generations of their family. In keeping with the Shaker tradition, it uses simple lines and traditional joinery to create a bed that is as functional as it is beautiful.

All the bed parts (rails, posts, platform) are made with the finest hardwoods available and constructed with durability in mind.  The bed rails are connected to the posts with mortise and tenon joinery, and fastened with six-inch bed bolts. A hand-rubbed nut oil finish is then added to bring out the beautiful luster and the grains of the cherry hardwood.  Simplicity of design, beauty and functionality make this handmade bed a welcome addition to any bedroom.
