The Hartford Platform Bed
This Hartford platform bed was originally designed for a couple who were inspired by the simple Shaker style of my walnut bed. They chose to alter the shape and size of the headboard and the height of the bed to meet their particular needs. The simple lines of the headboard and the well-balanced proportions of the bed posts add a unique presence to any bedroom. A hand-rubbed oil finish enhances the deep, rich tones of the solid walnut frame and headboard in this platform bed.
This walnut hardwood platform bed was designed to be beautiful and functional, and also to last for generations. The design features 6″ X 1 3/8″ bed rails that are tenoned into 2 3/8″ bedposts, and tightened using 6″ bed bolts. This is the strongest type of bed construction available. The bed bolts are concealed with period brass escutcheons.
While some use slats as supports for their platform beds, my platform is constructed out of 3/4 X 1 1/4″ maple slats positioned vertically between two pieces of 5/8″ thick Baltic Birch. This “honeycomb construction” is the strongest platform construction that is available. Each bed platform comes in three equal-size pieces for easy assembly and transport. The Hartford platform bed assembles and disassembles in just minutes for ease of transport and re-assembly.
I will need to know the depth of your bed mattress (and box spring if you are planning to use one) when you order your Hartford platform bed, as it determines the positioning of the headboard. All of my hardwood beds are custom made, which means that I can accommodate special requests.
